Amazon India has started a pilot programme to sell refurbished phones from top brands like Xiaomi and Samsung.
The devices will be revamped by the manufacturers and are supposed to be as good as new. The refurbished smartphones will come with a warranty of at least six months or more directly from the makers.
Consumer electronics is one of the top selling sections on Amazon.in and smartphones are the fastest growing category in that section. The e-commerce giant offers 82 smartphone brands.
"Our consumer insights give us enough reason to believe that there is a market in India for quality-assured, brand-refurbished smartphones at value prices. We are starting the refurbished category as a pilot and will scale as we see more feedback from customers," said Noor Patel, director of category management-media at Amazon India.
“We are confident that the smartphone ecosystem will gear up for more brand-refurbished products in the coming months.”
The smartphones are marked as “refurbished” on Amazon.in to differentiate them from brand new devices.
All orders for brand-refurbished smartphones will be directly fulfilled by Amazon.
